Apple App Store Policy Update Now Allows Cannabis Applications

As of June 7th, Apple has lifted its ban on cannabis applications on the App Store.

Apple allowing cannabis apps is a giant step forward, but there are still some limitations. In order to have a cannabis app, it must come from a legal entity (not a person), and the app has to be geo-restricted to areas where cannabis is legal.

Google has yet to follow suit on the Play Store, but I am sure we can assume they won’t be too far behind.

It’s refreshing to see the acceleration of pro-cannabis developments in the tech space. Canada legalized cannabis federally in 2018, but you still can’t use traditional marketing methods like paid advertisements.

Apple’s original policy strictly banned illegal substances- including CBD. It’s safe to say that although we are moving slowly, we are absolutely progressing forward in the pro-cannabis movement.

According to Apple Insider, Eaze is the first cannabis company to host an app on the platform.

The decision apple made to allow cannabis brands on their app store platform is a sign that we could see cannabis legalized on the federal level in the US sooner than we think.
